Waiting for the next Polish tour :D Photo taken in in Wolbrom. Jump to. Sections of this page. Accessibility help. Email or phone Password Forgotten account? Sign Up. Join group settings More. We like to have a few beers after the shows to hang out and wind down. Funnily enough during that tour Victoria and I drove the van while Pat and Simon took the train, which they really loved. Thankfully none of their trains were delayed!

What is the one thing that lets you switch off, be you and help keep your feet on the ground? LUKE: I meditate a few times a week. It really helps to keep me grounded, particularly when things get a bit stressful. I also have a lovely bedlington-whippet called Bonnie who is constantly reminding me of the simple things in life.

From the start it has been a very organic progression. The offer was very much out of the blue but it made us realise that we must be doing something right!

It was a great opportunity and we rose to the occasion playing in front of people, selling lots of CDs afterwards and returning the following year to Poland for an 18 date tour! How have the guys got on joining the band? I posted on Facebook asking if there were any drummers or multi-instrumentalists who would be interested in joining Gypsyfingers and Pat Kenneally replied saying that he plays drums and keys sometimes at the same time, which we thought would be perfect! I had met Pat on a recording session previously so I knew he was a talented musician and that we would get on so we went to see him playing with another band so Victoria could see and meet him.

We had a rehearsal and it just worked Pat has been an integral part of the band and a great friend ever since. Finding a bass player was more tricky!

We had three bass players before we found Simon Hedges, who used to be in a great grunge band in Bristol called Airbus. He is currently working in Brussels for the BBC so we have our fifth bass player Tali Trow playing for us currently, who is also a real asset to Gypsyfingers bringing an extra layer of vocal harmonies with him. Is there anything that you actually suck at?

LUKE: Probably lots of things! Being vegetarians we are all terrible meat eaters but I think that is a good thing. Gypsyfingers are an ethereal folk-rock band founded by Victoria and Luke Oldfield son of Mike Oldfield. Victoria's classical training and love of dance music fuses with Luke's folk and rock background to create a fresh sound of their own lauded by R2 Magazine as "trip-hop and folk-influenced ethereal pop that delightfully doesn't fit into any existing musical pigeonhole".

As with parts one and two, this is very oldfieldesque music off the tubular to platinum kind, if that does ring any bells :- Also reminding of the notorius Amarok, with all these fast changing themes. IMHO, the album's start is lacking a bit of cohesion but it's getting much better a bit underway when all these brilliant bits fit together more naturally Carsten Pieper.

Sanctuary II by robert reed. There's many different music styles, pop, reggae, rock And the only guy who plays that style among others so perfectly is Rob Reed! The Half Turn by yOya. A sprawling, song set from Pete Yorn complete with covers of Springsteen and The Smiths capture him at his unguarded best. New Year by A Silent Film. Stadium-filling, hearts-on-sleeves, full-on pop business recorded in a rustic studio on a farm near El Paso, Texas.

The Floral Dance E. A glimpse into a theoretical parallel universe where Wogan didn't release his hit version of "Floral Dance" because Mike Oldfield and Les Penning had beat him to it two years earlier, fresh off the success of their versions of "In Dulci Jubilo" and "Portsmouth". Regardless, this EP is every bit as much fun as it is interesting - fifteen minutes of pure, folksy joviality. Circus Life by GypsyFingers. Douglas Warren. Douglas Warren Lovely phrasing, tasty use of instruments, dashing tempo changes, ample depth in lyric and tone, beautiful voice.

Living the leagacy in joy and breviloquent detail whilst viewing a dash of love woven in the tapestry. A lovely white town drowsing in the heat of the summer sun transposed feeling into words. Surprisingly delightful. Catherine Woolf.

Chris Howland - Verboten (Vinyl)

Sharn 0 9 Comments

All of the recordings are sung in German except for two in English, "The Rain Falls on Ev'rybody" and a cover of Robin Luke's "Susie Darlin'," neither of which, ironically, is as engaging as his German-language cuts. Howland is an affable if not technically accomplished vocalist, but most of his material is good-natured and not too demanding, consisting mostly of teen pop songs and German-language covers of American hits such as Bobby Helms' "Fraulein" and Frankie Avalon's "Venus.

Howland's early-'60s recordings move away from light rock and teen pop toward traditional pop with cabaret flourishes and humor.

Open Your Eyes - Yes - XM In MMII (CD)

Kalkis 0 9 Comments

I've got to do something, let's start writing some songs. With Squire and Sherwood based in California, the pair resumed work on songs for a new album by their own band, Conspiracy. As development progressed, Yes secured new management in mid with the Left Bank Organization who devised an month plan for the band, which the group approved as they were in need of some direction and organisation.

The songwriting process started with Sherwood mailing tapes of early versions of "Wonderlove", "Love Shine", "New State of Mind", and "Universal Garden" to Anderson who liked them and recorded vocals from his studio in Hawaii and returned them. According to Sherwood, Howe declined to fly over and join the album's initial writing and recording sessions and instead arrived towards its completion. Howe claimed that Anderson and himself had little collaborative input, saying the two were "squeezed, pushed, undermixed and not allowed to develop and change that music," and added: "So we went into that almost like a group blind-folded, because we started doing [the album].

I kept saying, 'No, it doesn't sound like Yes. There's more familiarity, more of a balance of what the group really did sound like when we were carving this record. The earlier tracks have more of other peoples' view, which isn't as easy to live with, but you win some and you lose some. After Squire and White backed the idea for Sherwood to become a full-time member of Yes, Anderson and Howe agreed on the condition that they bring in Igor Khoroshev , a Russian keyboardist who they had heard tapes of and wished to have him for the Open Your Eyes tour; Anderson had discovered Khoroshev through mutual contacts at a software manufacturing company.

Upon the album's completion, Sherwood became a full-time member of Yes. Its original title was "Fortune Teller", but Sherwood agreed to change it to "Fortune Seller" upon Anderson's suggestion which he thought was better. Despite being a more gentle, acoustic ballad, Anderson said of its meaning: "It's basically all about past managers who could be difficult sometimes As the song evolved Open Your Eyes was scheduled for release in early , but when Left Bank saw that Keys to Ascension 2 was set for release in November , they wished for it to be released sooner than its originally planned date.

It peaked at number on the Billboard in the US during a one-week stay on the chart for the week of 13 December Sherwood estimated the album sold around , copies. Open Your Eyes received mixed reactions from critics and fans upon release. I think the band lost their keys to ascension. The opener is the only song that does not make me want to carve out my eardrums. It only makes me want to run headfirst into a wall.

Big Generator at least has moments of tolerable music. I first heard this album when I was driving. Luckily, I did not have to drive over any bridges, because I might have swerved hard to the right in an attempt to escape the pain, and then I wouldn't be here today writing this cautionary review.

The album is called Open Your Eyes, which is funny because all I wanted to do when listening to this is to firmly seal them and my ears in a futile effort to make the bad men stop. If you still want to spend good money on this, send the cash to me instead. I could use it, and think of all the money you'll save on health bills from not listening to this drivel. In terms of overall sound and structure, this album is really the follow up to "Big Generator" consisting as it does of similar sounds and shorter songs.

For many Yes fans, this is a poor relation to their classic works, bearing little resemblance to the lengthy prog masterpieces and intricate performances of yore.

The fact that this album came out around the same time as "Keys to Ascension 2" sent mixed messages to fans of the band. The "Keys to ascension" albums emphatically indicated that the classic line up was back together and committed to returning to the long prog tracks of yore. The album started out as a collaboration "Conspiracy" between Yes bassist Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood who then joined the band.

Sherwood effectively replaced Wakeman who left again before "Keys to Ascension 2" was released. While primarily a guitarist, he does contribute some keyboard work. Igor Khoroshev, who played with the band at live gigs, is also around; providing keyboards for 3 tracks while Steve Porcaro adds them to one.

Although Steve Howe is still officially a band member here, his contribution is limited, since he only worked on the album towards the end of its recording. Jon Anderson's involvement was greater, as he had been impressed with what he heard of the "Conspiracy" project, and was keen to add vocals.

Anderson and Howe would later criticise the album as being "rushed" and too focused on the ideas of Squire and Sherwood. Sales of the album were poor, and the supporting tour relied on the classic material to draw the fans in.

Few of the tracks from this album have ever been performed live, and those which have, have not appeared on a live album. So is "Open your eyes" as bad as it is often made out to be by Yes fans? Well yes and no. There is no doubt that this is not the type of music we expect of our heroes. It is lightweight, pop orientated material, with simple arrangements in Yes terms!

It is therefore necessary when approaching this album to put all expectations to one side, and consider it as a non-Yes, and indeed non-prog album. The opening "New state of mind" has the feel of an inferior "Going for the one", probably due to the harmonised vocals and wall of sound. The title track I do like.

OK, so it is airy and poppy, but I find it uplifting, with a fine vocal arrangement and a catchy hook. Chris Squire comes through strongly on the song, both vocally and through his bass contribution. This number also features on the Conspiracy album, under the title "Wish I Knew".

The songs which follow are all much of a muchness in terms of style, sound and content. They range from the relaxed let's all be friends of "No way we can lose" to the equally schmaltzy "Wonderlove". Only "From the balcony" really breaks out of the mould, and that is simply because it is an acoustic Jon Anderson and Steve Howe duet.

The piece had previously appeared in instrumental form on Howe's "Homebrew 2" album. After the final listed track, "The solution", the song ends, but the time counter keeps going. It may sound appealing, but there are frustratingly long pregnant pauses between the selected extracts, the piece as a whole being rather pointless.

This mix was played prior to the band arriving on stage on the subsequent tour. For me, while "Big Generator" was by no means a classic Yes album, it had strong compositions which worked well.

That is the main difference between that album and "Open your eyes". The compositions here are adequate, but lack the combined strength required to make this a good album.

I do actually enjoy it when heard occasionally, but it is one I can just as easily pass by, and not feel I have missed anything. In retrospect it's a shame this CD had to follow the excellent "Keys to Ascension" double-discs, which at the time sounded like the progressive rebirth of a long dormant creative spirit. What's even more frustrating is that the album actually kicks off with six minutes of very strong music, lasting through the macho adrenalin rush of "New State of Mind" and into the exhilarating instrumental opening of the title track.

But after that the songwriting collapses into sudden rigor mortis, and you can hear exactly when it happens: at the moment the headlong rhythm pauses for Jon Anderson to sing, "You've got a great imagination! From there it's all downhill: a precipitous slide into the same, inane mainstream pop conventions most fans must have hoped were a thing of the past.

Grace notes are rare, but they do exist, for example in the delicate acoustic guitar introductions to "Wonderlove" and "Universal Garden". But otherwise the album sinks under the weight of too many lackluster power less pop songs, all of them smothered in a thick syrup of multi-tracked vocals and New Age, Norman Vincent Peale lyrics.

Whatever happened, by the way, to the arcane, evocative poetry of classic Yes? This one is strictly for ambulance chasers and curiosity seekers; to anyone else the album is only worthwhile as negative reinforcement, validating all the acknowledged classics in the band's back catalogue. Steve Howe is back in the band here and his instantly recognizable guitar sound is clearly present. But the real stars of this album are Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood. Squire's unmistakeable bass guitar sound is as heavy and loud as ever and his bass lines are all over the place.

Chris also does a lot of backing vocals that blend perfectly with those of the eternal Jon Anderson. Sherwood was finally made a full member on this album after years of association with the band as session man and backup musician on tour. Sherwood had a big part in the song writing for this album and the style of some of these songs remind me of Conspiracy, the band that Chris and Billy would found a couple of years later.

Open Your Eyes consists of good, very melodic songs. The three first ones are excellent. The long-standing and classic rhythm section of White and Squire is intact; the distinctive vocals of Anderson are as strong as ever; the distinctive backing vocals of Squire and Howe; the aforementioned distinctive guitars and basses are also strongly present.

In addition, the classic Yes logo by Roger Dean once again graces the cover quite boring cover art overall though. Some songs are quite heavy - Yes rocks harder here! But they have not lost their subtlety. The relative scarcity of keyboards might be a reason for complaint since there is no Wakeman or Moraz here, or even a Tony Kaye for that matter.

But there are indeed still keyboards on this album, played by Billy Sherwood and also by guests Igor Koroshev who will join the band for their next album and tour and Steve Porcaro.

Someday is based on the song O'er that has been on some Jon Anderson albums under different titles and in different arrangements. It is a very folky song. The Folk influence goes beyond this too, Steve plays mandolin and banjo on this album to nice effect. A good album! Does it deserve such vilification? Yes and no in my opinion.

YES continued to be the authors of their own demise, putting this album out just after the acclaimed 'Keys to Ascension' albums, which signalled a return to YES's glory days in structure, if not in composition.

I guess fans can only stand so much disappointment. But if that background is put aside, I think the few high points of this album compare tolerably well to the fare many other proggish bands were offering a decade ago. Other cuts, such as the insipid title track, do nothing to erase the awful memories of such clangers as 'Big Generator' and 'Union'. It's a puzzle to me why the band, freed now from the expectation of a million-selling album, didn't try to go all-out to make the record they wanted to make: no one can convince me this meets any of the participating musicians' aspirations.

At one point near the end the band get it absolutely right: with 45 seconds remaining SQUIRE accidentally gets funky with the bass and the keyboards swirl agitatedly around him for a moment, as though unsure what had provoked this moment of musical excellence. Unfortunately, normal transmission is swiftly resumed.

We're deceived by the opening to 'Wonderlove' into thinking we might have a winner, but nope. Plod plod. And so it goes, almost as though at the first meeting of the band the decision was taken to alienate both sets of fans, those from the 70s and those from the 80s. It worked, lads. The fundamental problem here is not the sound, nor the style. It is the substance, which, as always, is composition. There's little here worth a second listen. How frustrating: like being forced to eat all the ingredients for a cake before they're mixed and put in the oven, this album looks and smells promising, but does not satisfy.

YES no longer rock, they no longer funk out, they no longer swing, they no longer amaze you with their enormous palette, the withheld note, the syncopation, the counterpoint. Instead they plod. Plod plod plod. What the HECK is this?! How did this get printed under the name Yes? This isn't Yes! This is of absolutely no importance or significance to a Yes fan, let alone a prog fan.

The songs do not bare any Yes resemblance at all other than the fact that some Yes members are playing on it. This isn't even like which had SOME artistic integrity. This has no artistic integrity. Not only that, it's absolute crap. If you looked up the definition of a 1 star album in the encyclopedia, you would find a picture of this album. Wakeman had gone bye bye part five owing to the management chaos inherent in the band, so Igor Khuroshev from Eastern Europe was drafted in for the subsequent tour to this LP, whilst Squire had insisted upon Billy Sherwood, an American Yes tribute guitarist he had been working with, being involved in the recording of the LP, most likely because most of it had started off as a collaboration between the two of them.

Sherwood adds absolutely nothing to the band, and the inevitable falling out between him and Howe came after The Ladder. I have not even got the heart to review each individual track. Suffice to say that it was a completely misguided attempt by the band to recreate the sound and commercial success of without the involvement of Trevor Rabin who, by this time, was writing soundtracks. Well, Sherwood is many things, but Trevor Rabin he ain't. If you don't feel that urge, then please don't waste your money.

This was undoubtedly the lowest point of a great rock band. Thankfully, things did improve with what was to come. It's a strong opener. Chris Squire's vocals are excellent on this track, as I've always favored his unique inflections. Overall, I enjoy the song, even if it has a real pop flavor. The song bobs along okay, but it's Howe's guitar work that just shines throughout. The guitar sounds like it belongs on a Howe solo album. But the song overall doesn't belong on a Yes album.

The lyrics are schmaltzy, even for them, and the music is downright laughable: "When we all realize that there are no difference, there's no way we can lose. I'm confused. The lyrics contain some eye-roll-inducing mystical platitudes that are hard to overlook "They say that time is like a river that flows, and where that river ends nobody knows," and "Giving into the power".

However, the organ solo played by Igor Khoroshev, I think is surprisingly good. Had that flavor been maintained, this could have been the "Soon" of the album, the respite after so much colorfully noisy music, but no- it doesn't take long before everyone is involved again, lending the song that same thick, overdone sound.

The guitar solo is terribly muddy and doesn't exactly fit. It's not a terribly great song, but it is pretty, and as I mentioned, a welcome relief.

The arrangement doesn't flow very well, but during the gentler moments, the music is very delightful. The sound has largely remained the same with little variation or deviation, and that generic prog-pop sensibility has numbed the mind.

This is just more of the same. It's kind of pathetic how most of the people judge Progressive Rock from 80's on. Yes, for sure it's not the same in the 70's, and you know why? Easy don't you think? It don't seems to be like most of 'prog rock fans' use to think. It's 90's Prog Rock with 70's feel, like The Flower Kings for example, who had similarities in his first couple albuns.

I'll make sure it'll be from now on. One more thing! Don't follow the 'specialists' words, listen this and wathever other music with YOUR own ears!!! Thankfully, there was no Roger Dean artwork this time. I say thankfully, because it gave Yes fans a warning. Many were anticipating another Close to the Edge. The disc certainly does not live up to that standard. It actually works better serving as a bridge between the classic Yes sound of the '70s and the more pop-oriented Trevor Rabin -era material.

It also seems at times to carry on in the direction begun with such albums as Tormato and Drama. There are some fine songs in the set, but there are also a few pieces that are worthy of the contempt of the diehards. There are at least a couple of standout tracks here that would, having been released on a different album, probably have become Yes classics and fan favorites. The title track is one of those that seems to merge the '70s and '80s Yes styles, but it also has leanings in the direction of Chris Squire 's solo release, Fish out of Water.

That Squire styling is really natural since the song was originally intended for a new solo album from the bassist. Among the other tracks that are highlights here are "Universal Garden" a very intriguing number that seems to combine the classic Yes sound with some tendencies toward Jon Anderson's solo work , "Fortune Seller," and "Wonderlove" one that feels a lot like an extension of the band's work just prior to their split.

The rest of the album fits more toward the middle ground in terms of quality. There are two versions of the disc out there: the first standard release and a surround-sound edition the first album ever released in that format. Waiting for the moment when the moment has been waiting all the time Staring at the golden heights, wondering are you ready for the climb. Are you ready for this? Always on the edge of what could be the greatest moment in this life Watching as the theme builds, left only to wonder in delight.

Beyond the sun Beyond the sky Are where the real questions lie Wanting to know where it begins The puzzle piece we are missing. Take hold of the answer Give life to the dreams you were foretold Looking into the future Trace the steps into the great unknown. They say that time is like a river that flows And where that river ends nobody knows And so we navigate our way through this life Riding the river Riding the river.

Take hold of your chances Defy all of the odds that have been made Making evey movement count We step toward a golden age You know Only you know Only you know. They say that time is like a river that flows And where that river ends nobody will know And so we navigate our way through this life Riding the river Riding the river.

Giving into the power Giving into the magic of the ride Using imagination We take a step into the other side. I am a creature of the night And I hope to come and shed a little light Although the universe our teacher I remain the central feature I am the man I am the man in the moon. I am the man in the moon Round and round And I hope to shine upon you very soon Round and round Waiting in the night To bathe you all in moonlight I am the man I am the man in the moon.

I believed that one day love would cast a line I believed there was something more for me to find Hoping today Hoping tomorrow Taking it all in stride I believed I could be chasing my mind. I believe I could walk a thousand miles Just to see the vision of your simple smile Everyday Wanting to follow Forever by your side Faithfully You are my destiny.

If you know my spirit Always shall you know me now Singing is your pleasure Looking down on you. Now I hear you singing Saying that you know me well Take me to your promise New state of mind. Now I feel you sighing Saying that you understand Feeling all the power Looking down on you.

Open your eyes and discover You're not the only one In disguise Do you wonder When the change is gonna come? Open your eyes You've got a great imagination Open your eyes Show it Show it Wish we knew I believe it It's time to face reality I've received it Things aren't what they used to be I believe it What I see in you, you see in me.

So excited to go this December. Tahiti is amazing! The Mount Aorai hike is a very challenging hike and the section which starts from the first refuge hut and goes to the summit is a dangerous one, year round.

During the wet season, hiking the trails gets even more dangerous and that is the reason why I went no further than the first hut. If luck provides you with consecutive days of sunny weather in usually rainy December, start hiking by no later than 5am if you want to summit. By am, it gets cloudy and not worth it not to mention extra dangerous. Alternatively, you can overnight in one of the huts. It took me about Hope this helps and do hike with extreme care!

Very beautiful! Thanks for putting together such an in depth guide — great pics. Makes really want to visit Tahiti. Would love to hike Mt. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Rugby union. But there are too few such stories in our popular culture, and certainly on our movie screens. World Rugby said in a statement Friday that following a request from the Cook Islands Rugby Union, it investigated claims that the Tahiti Rugby Union had used the ineligible players during the match in Rarotonga on Aug.

Spanning an area in the South Pacific as large as Western Europe, the total land mass of all the islands adds up to an area only slightly larger than the tiny state of Rhode Island. Pobre Corazon - Compay Segundo - Hasta Siempre Compay (CD)

The problem is when the other stanza comes with a refrain like this:. With the arrival of Trap, direct and unadorned sex has become an essential element to sell and accompanies the music videos of this musical subgenre, as some people call it. The truth is that I have no category where to place it. In the clip of Mayores, the singer appears dressed in the costume of a sadomasochistic porn star.

Sitting on a sofa, she opens her legs, in a pose with a marked sexual charge, with gestures that, more than sensual, are coarse, with little class…. It is not about giving a moralistic reading to the clip. Well-created human sensuality can and has been one of the most exquisite edges of art.

On the other hand, the nefarious Bad Bunny appears using a jargon of a young alpha male talking about his powers in bed, in the style that, with him, there is no need for toys. How sweet! The video, where dark tones reign and imitate the life of a nightclub, returns to a story in the style of the delinquents Bonnie and Clyde, because, in the end, they cheat the old man, but not before leaving him handcuffed to the bed.

Becky G and Bad Bunny are the ones who shape your musical taste and, in turn, become a reference point on how to dress and act. That would be fatal. And that leading the caravan Slowly trots a riderless horse For you. Open are the wounds that never heal Of the men and women who will never let you go.

Today our hearts beat in that square It hurts so, but your people do not want to see you go. Man: the grateful ones are with you. We shall all miss your great deeds. Even Death cannot believe it took you. Just as Olofi and Jesus Christ, There is not a single altar without a light for you. Or everything I know of you. They say that the square this morning, Is completely full of horses, Coming from far beyond. Y delante de la caravana lentamente sin jinete, un caballo para ti.

Vuelven las heridas que no sanan de los hombres y mujeres que no te dejaremos ir. Hombre, aprendimos a saberte eterno. No hay un solo altar sin una luz por ti. Tell me how are you doing? Charanga Habanera! Let me tell you what happened to me. I loved her so, but she upped and go! David hey chacal jackal ….. When will it end? How you doing over there? From the barracks pavel, frank dos metra , respect me, do it so you can learn, this is for you to enjoy not for you to criticize ok, ok, what do you want bread for, if I have coffee cake Did you get it?

At the same time, I was invited to be part of the Cuban team that helped organize the Peace without Borders Concert last Sunday September I was there; I felt the public, for the most part young people, vibrate. It was neither a trivial neither a hysterical mass of people. They knew all that had happened in Miami, the pressure they had put on Juanes, the acts of barbarism and fascism to force him to cancel the project. Explicale feat.
