Uploaded by jakej on February 18, It is merely a survey of some of the Liszt performances in Condon 's collection, and it wouldn't be a bad one if there wasn't one overriding problem: all of the rolls here are played back slightly too quickly. It's hard to tell whether this is the taste of Condon or the producer of this recording, as no one takes credit for this production and, outside of the profile of Condon , all the book gives us is a potted bio of Liszt.
Even a few words on super-obscure pianist Alexander Raab would be extremely useful; he isn't even listed in the holdings at IPAM, though he does have a small archive at UCLA about which the finder says little to nothing and provides no biographical background. The modest asking price for this two-CD set won't do much damage to your pocketbook, but if you have a trained ear for piano roll performances -- conceivably the only audience interested in obtaining Franz Liszt: The Piano Roll Recordings -- you should avoid this.
