They also recorded prolifically, and provided the musical score to a Scottish independent film, Restless Natives , which was released years later on the band's Restless Natives and Rarities collection. Brzezicki played drums for The Cult on their Love album and was featured in the video for the single, " She Sells Sanctuary ". In what some critics felt was an apparent attempt to regain their dwindling US following, Big Country used producer Peter Wolf for their next album, Peace in Our Time , which was recorded in Los Angeles.
It reached No. No Place Like Home nearly broke up the band. Drummer Mark Brzezicki returned to the studio as a session drummer after leaving the band. The album found Big Country trying to reinvent themselves and shift away from their s image.
In , the band was dropped by Mercury and its distributor Phonogram , the companies that had released all of their material since After that, Big Country became a minor act, popping up in the lower echelons of the charts in the UK and Europe with the release of every subsequent album.
Of growing concern was the mental and emotional health of lead singer Adamson, who reportedly had struggled with alcoholism for several years. Adamson split with his first wife, who later spoke to Scottish and English tabloid newspapers about his heavy drinking. He moved to Nashville in the mids where he took up residence and married a hairdresser. Adamson returned for the band's 'Final Fling' farewell tour, culminating in a sold-out concert at Glasgow 's Barrowland Ballroom on 31 May They played what turned out to be their last gig in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia , in October that year.
In November , Adamson disappeared again. Numerous appeals were put on the Big Country website asking for Adamson to call home and speak to anyone in the band, the management company, or his ex-wife. The website also requested that any fans who might have been 'harbouring' the singer to contact the management company and alert them to his whereabouts.
Mark Brzezicki and Tony Butler had indicated they were concerned but the reason Big Country had lasted so long was they stayed out of one another's personal lives, and both later noted they were unaware of the extent of Adamson's problems. In , to celebrate 25 years of Big Country, founding members Bruce Watson, Tony Butler now lead vocalist for the first time , and Mark Brzezicki reunited to embark on a tour of the UK with dates in Scotland and England and a gig in Cologne Germany.
The surviving original members toured again in late December and January with Mike Peters of the Alarm and Jamie Watson, Bruce's son, added to the line-up. Add to MP3 Cart. Come Back to Me is a real tear jerker. Did not care for the Wonderland 12" mix at all, ended up downloading the original.
So maybe I should have rated 5 Stars? Seven songs that I really like off one album is pretty good but to me "Steeltown" just simply wasn't as fun as "The Crossing". Still highly recommend to any Big Country fan as part of an essential collection of the band's music.
One person found this helpful. Initially I wasn't going to bother writing a review for this album as I couldn't think of anything to add after reading what other customers have already written, besides the fact that I actually like it better than BC's first one The Crossing, but then I realized that is all the more reason for me to at least try.
Steeltown is without a doubt one of the best sophomore albums by any band. It surpasses its predecessor by far both lyrically and musically. I purchased this album three and a half years after I did The Crossing and I must say it has done much more to whet my appetite for BC.
Steeltown has everything you would expect to find after listening to The Crossing only better - poetic lyrics, impassioned vocals, wailing guitars, etc. Its sound and subject matter call to mind many songs off one of my other all-time favorite albums, R. Another song off this album that I like is the instrumental track "Bass Dance", which was written as its title suggests by bass player Tony Butler.
The second half of the video takes place at sea in Swanage Bay. The band head towards Swanage Pier where they don wet suits and scuba gear and set out on a motorized inflatable raft. The woman, who has followed them, overtakes them on a jet ski.
The band reach their destination at sea, but have apparently no luck in locating the treasure after attempting some underwater diving however, since nobody in the band was actually scuba certified, this meant having to stay on the surface. The video concludes with the woman trapped on a small island surrounded by a cliff with a rescue fire burning.
The band appears overhead and lead singer Stuart Adamson tosses a rope down the cliff edge. He and drummer Mark descend. Interspersed throughout the video, in between the action, the band is shown in flannel shirts and blazers performing the song onstage.
The video ends on this note, with Stuart dancing and the rest of the band playing. The track appeared as the A-side of the single. It charted on Billboard in — From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Big Country. Shown below are our available and recently sold out items.
