How Delightful - The Disappointments (4) - Glass After Glass (CD, Album)

That's the frustration with this recording. Nothing comes close to the heights of "Brandy," James Giampa's congas on the hit not found anywhere else on the disc. What was needed was some strong outside material to capitalize on the success of the single and a band who needed to understand why they were successful.

Lurie's deadpan vocal doesn't fit the Poco style of "Golden Rainbow," and outside of their attempt to rewrite the original hit, everything on this sounds like a "B" side. To understand the concept of jitter in a CD, some background on how the CD works is necessary. The playback laser beam is reflected from the disc to a photodetector that converts light to an electrical signal.

The nine discrete pit and land lengths produce an amplitude-modulated signal at the photodetector composed of nine discrete sinewaves, which vary in frequency from kHz corresponding to the longest pit or land length to kHz corresponding to the shortest pit and land lengths.

The jitter analyzer counts the exact frequency of each of the nine sinewaves and then graphically plots their frequency distribution. The distribution is Gaussian, with most of the pit and land lengths falling very close to the ideal.

On the disc that sounded inferior, the distribution was extremely wide, with large variations in the pit and land lengths. There are several crediting discrepancies between the two versions of 'Second Phaze' - each version has additional credit information that the other does not contain. Comes in a 4-panel digipak with black CD tray. Add Review Gasoline September 7, Report. Due the lack of proper reviews or at least mildly lengthy , I thought I'd share my opinion on this fine album.

Let's get this out of the way first - What Transdimensional did is not what Second Phaze does. Transdimensional is a full fledged, spaced, otherwordly themed goatrance album with fast, psychedelic and colourful melodies.

It starts with a bang, maximizes the speed and then ends with a wonderful downtempo tune. Second Phaze has a fast tempo, even faster than Transdimensional probably, but everything feels very constrained in the sense it wants to really emphasize on an ever moving journey aspect.

Honestly, you'd think these kind of tempos would make the album feel extremely fast and dance-floor oriented, but this really is not the case, it's sort of a component of some form of harmony, if you will.

This album generally works you into cold, beautiful space with small planets that have a soft glow. Imagine what you see in a perfect earth night sky in cold winter, but in space.

There isn't much, considering our minds have been spoiled by over-imagined space scenes, but what there is, is absolutely beautiful, natural, pure. Jackson, who is devilishly fun as Mr. Glass but is ultimately only given a few moments to truly shine. In a movie called Glass , you wish there was more of him. It feels like a movie from a filmmaker who has some amazing puzzle pieces—and yet, even after almost 20 years, no clear vision of how to put them together.

There are moments of greatness which are overshadowed by a vast majority of confusing and muddled scenes and intentions. I just wish Glass gave them a more satisfying, complete platform to stand on. May 15,  · It was simply a higher quality process of producing a CD disc. Pit errors are a result of the CD manufacturing process with a typical disc having perhaps errors per disc. The JVC UHQCD process is a refinement of the CD manufacturing process and I believe the errors these discs averaged is around The FIM glass discs averaged

This thing retails for ¥, The Universal Japan site says that it comes paired with a standard CD of the same album, presumably so that you can compare the two and try to convince yourself that the crystal doohickey sounds ¥, better. It's apparently a Rudy Van Gelder remastering, if that's going to be a deciding factor for anyone.

Glass's recent works, which I think are good, are squarely located within the classical/romantic tradition, although they represent a somewhat new take on it. "Music In Twelve Parts" is not. It is quite unlike anything you've ever heard. Not many pieces can justify hours - Wagner, for instance, doesn't do it for me - but this does/5(9).

For those expecting the second coming of Sleater-Kinney, this could be a bit of a disappointment, at first--no Corin, obviously, some different instrumentation (particularly the keyboards, which play a big part in the sound), but, after a few listens you'll probably agree that this is a band that can stand on its own terms, and this album /5(48).
