I have to improve myself first, but I look forward to attacking all these different levels of sports challenges together with Kevin when it comes to the management side in the future, but I will have enough responsibility when the Gates open for us again.
We all know it'll come. Fast and we will ready. Hello to everyone, this is John Vogel with the athletic first of all Congrats to Kevin. Why do you think these philosophies haven't worked so far? For us, Yup, Yup Okay. I'm gonna label communication as as one of the biggest issues with the Sabres. Thank Terry touched on it earlier that the other GMs that we had hired or was here before we we said, We interviewed them you you call around but until you get to the day to day and sometimes you know it takes years right to understand where they're at and and what common ground that you guys that you've you've find together with Kevin, you know it's it's been a long process and not I mean yes not in the.
Role but certainly as a person and I think this is why we think that you know this is a little bit different. This was somebody that has been part of our organizations in multiple roles and that we've you know we've come to know and respect and I think that that makes you know a difference this time around.
Hey everyone. Congratulations a question for you. You know we have so many when we do these press conferences. Every general manager is always ask what's their vision for the team and everybody Kinda says the same thing with the way this roster is built right now. Do you have the pieces in place to make this a successful team without a complete roster overhaul?
It's a good question. I think that's something that you know, Ralph and tearing and I are gonna dive into right away. You know that's as we've talked. A few hours into the job, so we haven't been to go through the entire roster, Step-by-step here and discuss the pieces, but I will say this I've heard Ralph say it and he said it to me. His staff has great relationships with the players and as a former player myself when you have a buy in to the coach, so many great things can happen.
Into it, where can we improve? It's it's a long off. Right there's time we can work through those type of those questions and we're gonna do that starting right away.
Hi everyone. Leys from the Buffalo News, Kevin Congratulations. Operations have knowledge of different methods to maybe maximize your budget, for instance. Yeah, As I've mentioned, I mentioned three words, effective, efficient and economic today's sports world with and I'm I'm the last guy to know anything about technology.
I can't even mute this thing. In the and much more efficient, we have all the tools to to at and find tune over and slow it down slow motion back it up. We're we're gonna get leaner it's just the way the world is heading. Dore more efficient. They do things quicker. They use this new technologies that are that we all have at our fingertips.
Get your question there. Yeah, second part was when when you're looking at different ways to maximize your budget. I guess working in the front office and maybe no different methods you can use when it comes to you know, Video scouting or the various things that you sort of imagine what I can tell you the two guys you just mentioned Kevin and Ralph They're probably as much into this technology or more than I am so you know.
On board with this and that's one ways we wanna have our Organization in that direction. I don't know if there's ever a right way.
I think you know, winning and building a successful Organization. It's it's what's right for us. What's right for the Buffalo Sabres. What's who's the right people in those places? So I don't think we're gonna get hung up as much as you know what's the pedigree of this person or that person and who we're gonna add?
I think it's just it's gonna be more. About you know, who's the right person the Sabres and making sure that they're adding value that they're getting us to a better place. They were always improving. We're gonna focus on versus kind of you know, maybe what's what someone's you know?
I mean, believe me that that does play a part of it and don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that experience and knowledge. Just took a discussion for the kind up on what Lance was asking. I mean you guys Let Go to assistant GM with a lot of experience.
Do you plan on having another assistant GM or two undercover? It's early we need to talk that through we haven't arrived at a single conclusion yet on that, but I know we're open to it. Kevin's open to it like I said, it's finding make sure that it's the right people and that they're they're also in line with the vision that you know we we collectively with with coach Kevin have you know wanna see going forward? The interactions I had with fans during that time made a world of difference to me.
It happened everywhere. I could be at the grocery store and people would come up to me, wishing me good luck with my rehab. If felt great to receive that sort of kindness during a stressful time. Another Buff State classmate, Randy Schultz, worked for a company that transmitted typed sports stories from the press box via an ancient version of a fax machine. Standing beside Montreal goalie Ken Dryden, I asked him some long-winded questions about a surplus of players at his position on the team. When a player broke his wooden stick, an official would toss it into the penalty box until after the game.
It would then end up outside the locker room like a piece of scrap. The fear of relocation — which occurred in the months after former owner John Rigas was indicted for bank, wire and securities fraud in September — and the initial concerns whether a NHL team would be a success in Buffalo are a distant memory. Nobody does that anywhere except Buffalo, New York. That's the one thing about Buffalo Sabres fans: They wear their feelings on their sleeve.
Loyalty is often mentioned by former players when asked about Sabres fans. Dumont, who spent parts of five seasons with the team from , recalled seeing crowds of fans tailgating in the parking lot of PNC Arena in Raleigh and hearing chants from the home crowd in Buffalo during the '06 East final against Carolina. The fan base was always there and always supporting the team and the players. That was something special. Every time we were getting dressed, we knew they would be there to support us.
They had it rough, let's be honest. That loyalty took root during the franchise's formative years, grew through the efforts of Hall of Fame talents on and off the ice, and continues through a burning desire to see the Stanley Cup hoisted by the Sabres in Buffalo. Rick Dudley will be working elsewhere in the National Hockey League next season.
During a minute interview with The Buffalo News on Wednesday, Adams gave no indication how many employees he plans. The tally of firings by the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday appears to be 22, as the team updated its directory. Scouting was the hardest hit area, which is not unusual when a general manager gets fired, but the scope of the firings was surprising.
Jack Eichel is fed up with watching everyone else in the Stanley Cup playoffs. So are fans of the Buffalo Sabres. Eichel has played five seasons spanning games without reaching the postseason. Their NHL careers, of course, have been quite different. A hockey stick and puck that produced one of the most disappointing moments in Sabres history has been added to the voluminous memorabilia collection of Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin.
