Guy Clark's performance is a career-spanning retrospective of legendary proportions featuring classics such as, "Desperados Waiting For A Train," "Texas " and "Homegrown Tomatoes.

For her songwriting prowess as a member of previous projects including the sixties pop-leaning PicaPica and an award-winning folk duo with guitarist Ben Walker, she was named one of American Songwriter's Best Songwriters of Reflecting on her first full-length solo effort, Josienne Clarke says, "Learning to sail in all weather, the line from which the album title comes is what we are all trying to do in life.

To right myself when things feel turbulent and uncertain. How to correct your course and stay true to the things you believe and need and let all the rest go". She continues, "At times, the message the world appeared to want to give me was, as I suspect it is for many women - you are not enough on your own - and yet somewhere in me I thought I might be. I wanted to be an island. To sink or swim on my own, to construct and exist as a singular entity to fail or succeed at my own hand.

HOST Seedlings All is the duo's follow-up to their Rough Trade debut Overnight, an ambitious well-received record which focused on Clarke's magnificent voice and lyrics alongside Walker's prodigious guitar-playing and arranging.

ME NO HUM CRAZY SHOES He, along with producer Jason Lehning Alison Krauss, Mat Kearney , created an album that has been praised as "one of those rare albums that contains music that inspires from the kick off" and "the kind of record that puts things in perspective". The beautiful lyrics on 'Loved' are equally matched by Thad's voice making this a sincere album that wreaks of heart-wrenching, soul-stirring passion.

In his own words, "They are the songs that I couldn't get away from. Originally released in , Golden Apples Of The Sun is her 2nd LP and is mostly made up of traditional material rearranged by Collins and her unique and iconic voice. A classic of the 60s folk revival back in print on LP. She was at the forefront of the Folk Revival of the s and 60s when she met Alan Lomax and subsequently traveled the US with him in collecting traditional old world and American folk songs.

On her return to England, Shirley cemented her role in the English folk scene, recording over twenty albums and inspiring untold numbers of fellow musicians in her 60 odd years in music. Lodestar is a collection of English, American and Cajun songs dating from the 16th Century to the s. Includes Grammy-winning hit "Sunny Came Home". It is a concept album about divorce, as Shawn Colvin's marriage was ending. At the time of the album's release, she had relocated to Austin, Texas.

She won both awards sharing Song of the Year with Leventhal. Shawn Colvin's debut album, Steady On, was released in October , a stunning introduction to an artist who quickly established herself as a mainstay in the singer-songwriter genre. The album was lauded for it's confessional songwriting and well-crafted melodies, and for Colvin's tender and provocative vocals. She swiftly amassed a dedicated and passionate fanbase, to whom this album remains very special.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of this landmark album, Colvin offers up a newly-recorded, solo acoustic version. Colvin brings a year lens to her treasured songs, casting new light on the stories she first told as a young artist.

Colvin has always been hailed as an exemplary solo acoustic performer and these new recordings are a brilliant showcase for her enduring artistry. DIANA It was released in , with the opening song "Diana" being released as a single. The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, and elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence "Drip Drip" , rape "Diana", "Song to Comus" , and insulin shock therapy "The Prisoner".

These themes contrast starkly with the acoustic sound of the record, featuring acoustic guitar, violin, flute, and lyrical, almost Arcadian, female harmonies. References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles and tattoos.

The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centrefold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring. Reviews were favourable, such as the NME praised the album's "highly unusual but fascinating sound" and Time Out said "the overall effect is unique". We've re-cut them over two nights in Memphis at Sun Studios to capture the live energy of the songs. They were recorded with all the instruments in the same room with no isolation, everything live, vocals included, no overdubs.

Corb Lund. RUBEN The song "Shake Sugaree" is a folk classic featuring her great granddaughter Brenda Evans on vocals. This is an absolutely essential collection from an American folk legend.

Limited edition yellow vinyl. An absolute classic lovingly reissued in a perfect replica of the original Folkways jacket and including a reproduction of the original information booklet. On Blue vinyl. JENNY Ron Easley produced the thirteen-song album, recorded at his younger brother Dougs four-track Easley Recording Studio.

Despite being in their 70s and 80s, the Country Rockers were heralded as main stays and at the epicenter of Memphis rock and punk rock in the s. DRAG Dalton sings, plays guitar and banjo; Richard Tucker appears on guitar on some tracks. This is yet a NEW repressing, no longer with the 7". Also includes three CDs of the same material along with one CD of unreleased home recordings which includes a mesmerizing take on "God Bless The Child". Includes a page book with scans of Karen Dalton Personal Archives writings, photographs, memos disclosed here for the first time.

Rick Deitrick sold the LPs to various local shops and left a few albums in the middle of the wilderness next to trails "so people would find them.

Deitrick's rare LP from the same period. DVD with 20 min. Showcasing her clear voice and guitar with spare instrumental backing featuring acoustic bass, piano and fiddle that support her beautiful songs of life, love and family. Infamous Angel is a modern folk classic.

In a gatefold sleeve on gram vinyl. First time issued on vinyl! The collection included material from his earlier days as a songwriter going back to on "For Bobbie" to his later hit "Rocky Mountain High". Greatest Hits is important historically because it contained new, revisionist recordings of several songs.

Denver explained this himself in the liner notes by saying that he had picked the numbers most requested in his concerts, but that "I felt that some of these songs had grown a bit, that I am singing better than I was four or five years ago, and that I would like to treat some of the songs a little differently than I had in the original recordings. They honor his life and music with this release. The first side of the record focuses on the faults and vices that can drive the creative forces within music while the second side focuses on the absolution of life, the soul and forgiveness.

Wheatstraw Suite is the fourth album by The Dillards, released in it's their first album to move away from their traditional bluegrass sound by using a full orchestra and occasional drums. Double LP in gatefold sleeve. I HOPE. Once you've got it, play it in the record stores of your mind!

Louis perfectly captures. MAGIC ROAD Includes a bonus track not on the CD version. RAIN JOEY HORN KNOW He proposed that Dylan sign with the prestigious publisher M. Dylan signed a contract with Witmark on July 12 and immediately recorded a demo of what would become his breakthrough song, "Blowin' in the Wind".

Four months passed before Dylan returned to record another song, "Ye Playboys and Playgirls", but the next month, in December, he showed up with many new compositions, including three that would become classics of his, "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall", "Ballad of Hollis Brown", and "Tomorrow Is a Long Time".

All of Dylan's demos for Witmark are reproduced here on Wax Love. Long Time Gone compiles the best songwriting demos from that fruitful period. Essential early demos from America's greatest 20th century songwriter. The causes Seeger and Dylan championed over half a century ago may not burn so brightly in our collective conscience in these inward-looking days of social networking, but the words they wrote still resound.

Their influence on the music of the last 50 years is impossible to overestimate. Starting in the early 's, Eaglesmith is known for his songs about hard working folks and his endless touring. Blue LP in a gatefold jacket. STAND Limited to copies! He was certainly a musical renegade from day one, and that's one thing about him that hasn't changed. This performance displays the vintage Steve Earle sound that paved the way for a new generation of country rockers willing to buck the Nashville system.

Records since 's El Corazon, explores his country songwriting roots and features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Johnny Bush, and Miranda Lambert. At first glance, he's simply a smiling, long-haired, twenty-two year old in a hand-stitched Western shirt and Dwight Yoakam-tight blue jeans. But there's more to this youthful Texas native than meets the eye. The young songwriter's second release is an impressive and diverse concept album split between five breathtaking folk songs and five soon-to-be Country standards.

Listening to Photographs, one finds it difficult to pigeonhole Robert Ellis. It's even harder to remember that he's barely just begun. NO FUN The songs on the new album, which range from the majestic string-adorned title track to noir pop rock and somber confessionals, both show Ellis' growth and the various sides of this multidimensional songwriter.

By Takoma was doing well enough financially to justify the recording of Fahey's first and second albums for the burgeoning stereo market. Thus Vol.

For the new version Fahey recorded all but one song on the album. On clear vinyl. Originally released in Days Have Gone By continues Fahey's interest in soundscapes, sound effects and experimental music mixed in with more traditional guitar playing of his earlier musical style.

On gold vinyl. As massive as that earlier work was, it represented only a tentative first step towards the fields of hodologic splendor that our hero would go on to create.

Death Chants represents a much more fully realized syncretism of the modernist and primitive poles between which Fahey wobbled. It is also the first album he deigned to release entirely under his own name and the one with which he truly began to cast a shadow across the blandly-lit landscape of the world's subconscious. On blue vinyl.

More than half the album's titles draw from the traditional blues and country repertoire Fahey had spent his teen years and young adulthood collecting, listening to, and learning to play, yet the recordings proved once and for all that his interests lay in musical transfigurations rather than preservation - Fahey was not afraid to use these old tunes as raw material.

On green vinyl. Fahey's never recorded album that was more thoroughly of its moment. From the groovy flute and twangy sitar accompaniment to the backwards guitar, this Birthday Party is a charmingly trippy 60s time capsule. But it isn't a two dimensional one. The album gains immense depth from the tension between his sweeping, fingerpicked melodies and discordant string-battery.

It's the audible battle between yearned for rose colored luminescence and ankle blistering hellhound darkness that enables this record to transcend its hippie dreaminess. Fahey's never recorded an album that was more thoroughly of its moment. On orange vinyl. This album has an amazing variety of styles, moods, and influences, and John has a compositional and playing style that is totally unique.

On purple vinyl. LION Now available on gram heavyweight vinyl. Mastered from the original tapes. Apostolic was many things: a label, a collective, a state of mind even. But before all of that, it was a recording studio set up by New Yorker John Townley. Despite the possibilities opened up by the studio and the chance to treat the desk as an instrument, The Family Of Apostolic is nonetheless a folk record at heart, and sounds downright spare in places. The experimentation was there in subtle ways, per Townley's desire for each song to be "like just a natural happening.

We were trying to get a very close, upfront, live feeling. Singles were released under different artist names, serving only to confuse the public more. Soon the studio was heading down the tubes, thanks in part to Jimi Hendrix's multi-track studio Electric Lady opening two blocks away. And before long, the Apostolic dream was over. The LP is slightly resequenced and has some track substitutions, as well as new artwork and liner notes.

LIFE MAN SAM DAY 22 Alison's crystalline voice spirals through the songs making it contemporary and with a European echo. Limited to only hand-numbered copies on vinyl with printed lyrics. Cover and back-cover paintings by Richard Moult. Mastered directly from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Old style "Tip On" gatefold jacket printed by Stoughton on heavy stock. The resulting album is a masterwork soul album with Frazey's smoulderingly urgent vocals, emotionally raw lyrics, and muddy-road folk effortlessly melting into the elegant earthiness of soul music's finest musicians.

Obadiah combines Frazey's gorgeous sultry vocals that helped define the Tanyas' sound, with her ever growing love for soul music, adding a rich fullness and bottom end to the 13 tracks the comprise the debut. Recorded during a blissful Vancouver summer, Obadiah is a collection of songs hand-carved by the hardships and exaltations of life, and stained with the rich colors of soul and folk music that fueled artists like Joni Mitchell, Ann Peebles, Neil Young, and Donny Hathaway.

Now available as a single LP on standard weight vinyl in celebration of Capitol Records' 75th anniversary. Solo Guitar is the 5th album released under his name in all that time, which gives an insight into the nature of his music; when it is time for Mark to commit to something underneath his fingers, regardless of whether that is after two years, ten or twenty, that's what's right.

Foster, on nylon string guitar, and husband Victor Herrero, accompanying on Portuguese guitar, together weave intimate readings of songs spanning Foster's songwriting career including selections from recent albums "This Coming Gladness" and "I'm a Dreamer" and back to Born Heller Until now. Carefully re-mastered from the original tapes, historical maverick and noted expert on the Memphis scene Alec Palao recently interviewed Frank in detail and assembled a lengthy essay for the CD and LP liner notes that detail Frank's personal and musical journey.

Frank is the highly regarded debut and the only official album he ever released, produced by friend and fellow musician Paul Simon in England and issued by Columbia Records in Jackson has been called the most famous folk singer of s that no one has ever heard of and his influence was felt more in England, where his album was a hit, rather than in the U.

A wonderful record brought to you by 4 Men With Beards on gram vinyl. I had been busted by the Feds for growing marijuana on my farm. Johnny Cash called me and asked me if I wanted to come live at his place on the lake till the heat blew over, which I did I had been experimenting with multiple guitar tunings and had given myself up lyrically to what a free form jazz sax player experiences when they play their spontaneous solos. I was burned out on the traditional pop lyric art form - thus, the songs on this record, At the House of Cash.

When I finished it, John and June listened to it one night. A few days later he sidled up to me and said in his iconic Johnny Cash voice, "Chris, June and I listened to your record last night and I don't think even the drug people are gonna understand it.

To me that was a compliment. I had transcended the culture that had been driving the world for the last 12 years. I had succeeded. Includes a new interview, portraits, and archive photos. Their classic recordings for Folkways and Rounder in the '60's and 70's "rank among the most influential recordings in folk music history," All Music Guide , and laid the groundwork for many artists, especially female bluegrass and folk musicians.

Taylor, and features members of Hiss Golden Messenger and Megafaun. ITALY SPAIN Includes a digital download coupon not only for this album but also for "Shadows On Parade". Out of her comfort zone, she found even more of a challenge than she'd envisioned. Immediately upon arrival, she broke her foot and barely left her 5th floor apartment for the first two months. Then, on March 26th, , her East Village building burned to the ground in a horrific gas explosion which killed two people and left many homeless.

Gibson escaped from her apartment unharmed, but lost everything: all identification, eyeglasses, musical instruments, years of notebooks and every word she had written in response to her move. It is no surprise that Empire Builder stands as her most personal record to date. The record includes nine original songs Giddens wrote or co-wrote while she and her band toured after Tomorrow Is My Turn's release, along with a traditional song and two civil rights-era songs, "Birmingham Sunday" and Staple Singers' well-known "Freedom Highway," from which the album takes its name.

Giddens and the band will tour the U. JULIE The vinyl will follow on March 3. The album was produced by T Bone Burnett. In , he founded Collector Records, primarily to produce records supportive of the struggles of working men and women.

In this recording, Joe sings topical songs from the s and s that are primarily of his own composition and are heavy on humor and satire. The subject matter ranges from civil rights to politics to defense of environmentalism. The Charlie Byrd Trio provides the accompaniment. In this collection of music, Glazer reminisces of the struggles and triumphs of the railroad worker.

He writes, "This album is dedicated to all the workers who lost limbs and lives on the railroads, to the John Henrys who built the Big Bend tunnels and the Casey Joneses who drove the big eight wheelers, to the waymen and the brakemen, the telegrapher and the firemen, the conductors and the switchmen, the clerks and the craftsmen, the planners and the builders; and, yes, to the hoboes who rode the rods and the empty boxcars.

Teaming up with his friend and Varnaline front man Anders Parker, Farrar has recorded an album of new takes on American folk standards. Also known as the folk process, these are old songs by the likes of Stephen Foster and The Reverend JM Gates which have been given new lyrics or new arrangements in an effort to re-interpret the songs in a fresh way.

Recorded over the course of just two days, Death Songs For The Living represents two craftsmen stepping out and taking a chance on some of the music that they hold most dear. Includes download card for full album.

Rudderless, he set about recording solo album Misty Flats, and though few would hear it in its day, he hit on something very special indeed. Where The Batch were a harmony-drenched power pop band in the mold of Big Star and The Rubinoos, Misty Flats was an album of ecstatic desolation, an unhinged loner-folk gem that came from a unique place: "I wanted to make the first punk rock album, and if I'd recorded those songs with a band, maybe that's what it would've been," Goldberg says.

Drawing on influences as diverse as folk, jazz and blues, "Godington Boundry" is one of his later classics, which has incredibly been out of print on vinyl for decades. Taken from the original analogue studio master tapes. Import edition limited to copies. Shakey Graves , And The War Came follows the Austin, TX-based artist's self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, which brought him national acclaim and, three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp's digital best-seller charts - a testament to Shakey Graves' ability to connect with an ever-growing fan base.

Gunn's songwriting and inventive guitar playing are driven by his restless mind, having released 9 solo and collaborative albums and appeared as a guest on nearly as many since his debut in The Black Twig Pickers play a fervent form of traditional music from their Appalachian homeland. Hey, my birthday is coming up in August!

I was young nineteen and had no idea how things worked in Vegas, but I had my aunt with me who knew the 'ins and outs' and she was the one who got us into the show. It was the first of many Manilow concerts. I had been a fan for years. By some luck - we got to the show 4 hours early with the hopes that we would be able to get good seats as our tickets were not waiting for us when we arrived. I still can't believe it.

We waited in a separate line and the maitre D' said "I have 4 front row seats available. We were there and right up front and personal. I cried through the whole performance and I brought Barry a home made nut roll. Anyway, our tickets did come through the next evening and I had to go back and see him again as I had missed the whole first show by crying!

Being that it was first-come-first-serve seating, I went there at p. I was panicked to find a huge crowd there already! Luckily it turned out that another concert was about to begin Around a. Quite an experience for a pre-teen!!

Barry Manilow is the most wonderful performer and singer! No other concert could compare to this one. We got there really early in the morning. Mid-morning the park officials decided we were there too early and wanted us to leave. The lady who stayed overnight with the pre-teens mentioned earlier to hold their front row seats, called the news stations. After much media attention we were all allowed to stay, but others had to wait until later in the day to enter the park.

The sound crew played Frisbee with us - the concert was great! What thrilled me the most was seeing his limo parked below the railing leaving the seating area and seeing an assortment of his stage shoes sitting in the backseat. The door of the car was open, so of course I took some photos! I remember that so well, Barry's shoes! I will never forget it, especially when he was singing "Weekend in New England" and off in the distance I could see the city lights of Denver with a full moon rising over the city August This was my first concert.

Can't believe I fell in love with the voice and music of Barry at such a young age. The Greek Theater ad in the paper said, "Congratulations, Barry! Your first week sold out four months in advance! We added four more days, and they sold out in 5 hours!

Welcome back to L. My husband finally agreed to getting me there! However, what about my Barry concert?? Well, my husband, true to his word, and in fear of death, got dressed, with suit and tie my preference because of seeing my BARRY and we proceeded.

From then on I've followed him AND encouraged others to do the same by inviting them to his concerts. I really never thought he would make such a difference in my life. I was 16 years old and that summer my parents sold our house and bought a new one I was stuck in the house all summer. As a gift my parents bought me the tickets and my sister went with me.

I will never forget that night because Barry realized that people were actually in the trees behind the seats. My favorate moment was when Barry sang "All The Time. I have gone to other Barry concerts since then but none will mean as much as the first one. I was 16, and it was the first trip to Los Angeles from Orange County for my best friend me.

We sat in the 15th row, left side, and loved when Barry talked to the "tree people. I felt sorry for the people in the row in front of us, because at the beginning and end of every song, we screamed our lungs out, and ended up with laryngitis for the next week! Thank you, Barry, for all of the memories and great shows; you are truly the master showman. He heard us and told us we could have it. I keep dreaming of having that come true!

Love ya, loads, Barry!! I still know all the words, well, my little son had to listen whether he wanted to or not and became a fan. He is 41 now. I just found out my year-old grandson is also a fan and knows many of Barry's most popular songs! We got a wonderful gift at Christmas, tickets to the farewell tour in Dallas, Texas, in February I just think it is so funny to have three generations very excited to be going and we will be singing our hearts out that night.

Thanks Barry! I was going to college in Southwest Kentucky. Two other students and I drove 5-plus hours to see him in concert. He didn't disappoint and never has! I have seen Barry many times since then. Latest was 2nd Row in Vegas! Thank you, Barry, for your songs, the complexity of the melodies, and the wonderful lyrics. You are truly a gifted artist! But Barry made the dampness disappear with the warmth of his music.

Was in the "semi-nosebleed" section, but didn't care! I had great seats I waited in line forever to get them! The only problem was that I had a HUGE nursing exam the next day, so my friend quizzed me on the nursing information before the concert AND during the intermission!
