Gangrene Discharge Track 11 - Grotesque Deformities / Gangrene Discharge - Split (CDr, Album)

Mukus 0 9 Comments

Internal gangrene occurs in the internal organs, the most common being the intestines and gallbladder. This form of gangrene results when blood is blocked off to the organ, as in torsion of the artery in cases of strangulated inguinal hernias. A form of gangrene affecting the genital region is known as Fournier's gangrene , which can arise from any infection in the genital organs.

Common signs and symptoms of gangrene include pain and swelling, bluish or black skin discoloration, and a foul-smelling discharge from the affected area. Fever due to the infection may also be present. If the infection causing the gangrene has become severe, a condition known as septic shock, which is characterized by a rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, confusion, light-headedness and shortness of breath, can occur.

People who have small blood vessel disease, such as atherosclerosis, are at an increased risk for gangrene. Diabetics are also at risk due to their decreased immune function, which prevents them from effectively fight off infections. Accident victims and persons with serious injuries may be also at risk for gangrene.

Treatment of gangrene includes removal of the dead body tissue through surgery. Bacteria called Clostridia cause gas gangrene. These bacteria create an infection that causes gas bubbles and toxins to develop inside the affected area.

The resulting gases cause tissue death. You are more likely to develop gangrene if you have a history of certain medical conditions, including:. Some other physical events could increase your risk of gangrene. You may be more likely to develop this condition if you:. Smoking, drinking alcohol, and using intravenous drugs may also add to your risk of developing gangrene. Sometimes the first sign of dry gangrene is a reddish line that develops around the affected tissue.

This line may later turn black. In this case, you may not have any symptoms on your skin or limbs. However, you may have pain, an unexplained fever that lasts a long time, or low blood pressure.

You may also experience confusion. Your doctor may suspect that you have gangrene based on your medical history and symptoms. They may also use a combination of additional diagnostic methods to determine your condition.

A scraping of tissue from your affected body part may be examined with a microscope to look for dead cells. Some kinds of imaging are helpful in diagnosing the spread of gangrene in your internal tissues. An anarteriogram test may be performed if doctors suspect that your gangrene is related to a circulatory problem. This test uses X-rays to monitor the flow of a special dye through your arteries, showing whether any arteries are blocked.

Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics if bacteria are present. These are typically given intravenously, or through a needle directly into the bloodstream. For people with poor circulation that results in gangrene, vascular surgery surgery on the arteries or veins may be recommended in order to improve the flow of blood through the veins to body tissues. Placing a person with gas gangrene in a special oxygen-rich environment can slow the growth of bacteria.

Get Off My Log (Milkapella)

Arashilar 0 8 Comments

Milk storage vats or silos are refrigerated and come in various shapes and sizes. Milk is usually stored on farm at 39 degrees Farenheit and less for no longer than 48 hours. Vats and silos are agitated to make sure that the entire volume remains cold and milkfat does not separate from the milk. After milk has been collected, storage vats and stainless steel pipes are thoroughly cleaned before the farmer milks again.

Milk is collected from the farm every 24 or 48 hours. The tankers that are used have a special stainless steel body which are heavily insulated to keep the milk cold during transportation to the processing factory. Milk tanker drivers are accredited milk graders, which allows them to evaluate the milk prior to collection. Tanker drivers grade and if necessary reject milk based on temperature, sight, and smell. The blooms are atop flower stalks in clusters or single flowers.

Balloon flowers grow best in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. When the stems are damaged or cut, milky white sap oozes out of the flower.

Thankfully, this sap is not toxic or poisonous and -- after the cut is flame-seared to stop the flow of sap and wiped cleaned -- the cut blooms can be used in floral arrangements. Referred to as the dogbane family, the Apocynaceae family consists of several hundred plants, most of which produce a white milky sap rich in alkaloids. This toxic sap is dangerous to livestock, pets and wildlife, and causes contact dermatitis.

It produces deep green, glossy foliage on smooth stems that -- when broken --emit a white, milky sap. Latest Updates. Log in. New posts. JavaScript is disabled. Shot From A Gun

Shaktitaur 0 8 Comments

The user loads the first shell by breaking the gun in the manner of a break-action shotgun, then closes it and inserts the second shell into a clip on the gun's right side. The spent hulls are ejected downwards. The guns combine the advantages of the break action they can be proven to be safe by breaking open, there are no flying hulls with those of the semi-automatic low recoil, low barrel axis position hence low muzzle flip. This design makes the gun technically not really a self-loading weapon, and Verney-Carron described it as a "manual repeating shotgun".

The gauge number is determined by the weight, in fractions of a pound, of a solid sphere of lead with a diameter equal to the inside diameter of the barrel. So, a 10 gauge shotgun nominally should have an inside diameter equal to that of a sphere made from one-tenth of a pound of lead.

Each gauge has a set caliber. By far the most common gauges are 12 0. Different gauges have different typical applications. Twelve gauge shotguns are common for hunting geese, large ducks, or other big larger gamebirds; professional skeet and trap shooting; military applications; and home-defense applications. Sixteen gauge shotguns were once common for hunters who wanted to use only a single shotgun for gamebirds normally pursued with twelve or twenty gauge shotguns, but have become rarer in recent years.

Twenty gauge shotguns are often used for gamebirds such as doves, smaller ducks, and quail. Twenty-eight gauge shotguns are not common, but are classic quail-hunting guns.

Other, less common shotgun cartridges have their own unique uses. These are commonly called snake shot cartridges. These were used for commercial waterfowl hunting, to kill large numbers of birds resting on the water. Handguns have also been produced that are capable of firing either. Derringers such as the " Snake Slayer and Cowboy Defender " are popular among some outdoors-men in the South and Southwest regions of the United States.

It uses a relatively small charge of shot. It is used for hunting and for skeet. Because of its very light recoil approx 10 N , it is often used as a beginner's gun. However, the small charge and typically tight choke make it more difficult to hit targets.

Most of these young hunters move up to a gauge within a few years, and to 12 gauge shotguns and full-size hunting rifles by their late teens. Still, many who are particularly recoil-averse choose to stay with gauge shotguns all their adult life, as it is a suitable gauge for many popular hunting uses. A recent innovation is the back-boring of barrels, in which the barrels are bored out slightly larger than their actual gauge.

This reduces the compression forces on the shot when it transitions from the chamber to the barrel. This leads to a slight reduction in perceived recoil, and an improvement in shot pattern due to reduced deformation of the shot. Most shotguns are used to fire "a number of ball shot", in addition to slugs and sabots. The ball shot or pellets is for the most part made of lead but this has been partially replaced by bismuth, steel, tungsten-iron, tungsten-nickel-iron and even tungsten polymer loads.

Non-toxic loads are required by Federal law for waterfowl hunting in the US, as the shot may be ingested by the waterfowl, which some authorities believe can lead to health problems due to the lead exposure.

Shot is termed either birdshot or buckshot depending on the shot size. Pellet size is indicated by a number; for bird shot this ranges from the smallest 12 1.

For buckshot, the numbers usually start at 4 6. A different informal distinction is that "bird shot" pellets are small enough that they can be measured into the cartridge by weight, and simply poured in, whereas "buckshot" pellets are so large they must be stacked inside the cartridge in a fixed geometric arrangement in order to fit.

The diameter in hundredths of an inch of bird shot sizes from 9 to 1 can be obtained by subtracting the shot size from Different terminology is used outside the United States. In England and Australia , for example, 00 buckshot cartridges are commonly referred to as " S. Shot, small and round and delivered without spin, is ballistically inefficient.

As the shot leaves the barrel it begins to disperse in the air. The resulting cloud of pellets is known as the shot pattern , or shotgun shot spread. The ideal pattern would be a circle with an even distribution of shot throughout, with a density sufficient to ensure enough pellets will intersect the target to achieve the desired result, such as a kill when hunting or a break when shooting clay targets.

In reality the pattern is closer to a Gaussian , or normal distribution, with a higher density in the center that tapers off at the edges. The hits inside the circle are counted, and compared to the total number of pellets, and the density of the pattern inside the circle is examined.

A constriction in the end of the barrel known as the choke is used to tailor the pattern for different purposes. Chokes may either be formed as part of the barrel at the time of manufacture, by squeezing the end of the bore down over a mandrel , or by threading the barrel and screwing in an interchangeable choke tube.

The choke typically consists of a conical section that smoothly tapers from the bore diameter down to the choke diameter, followed by a cylindrical section of the choke diameter. Briley Manufacturing, a maker of interchangeable shotgun chokes, uses a conical portion about 3 times the bore diameter in length, so the shot is gradually squeezed down with minimal deformation. The cylindrical section is shorter, usually 0.

The use of interchangeable chokes has made it easy to tune the performance of a given combination of shotgun and shotshell to achieve the desired performance. The choke should be tailored to the range and size of the targets. A skeet shooter shooting at close targets might use micrometres 0. A trap shooter shooting at distant targets might use micrometres 0. Special chokes for turkey hunting, which requires long range shots at the small head and neck of the bird, can go as high as micrometres 0.

The use of too much choke and a small pattern increases the difficulty of hitting the target, whereas the use of too little choke produces large patterns with insufficient pellet density to reliably break targets or kill game. See also: Slug barrel. Other specialized choke tubes exist as well. Some turkey hunting tubes have constrictions greater than "Super Full", or additional features like porting to reduce recoil, or "straight rifling" that is designed to stop any spin that the shot column might acquire when traveling down the barrel.

These tubes are often extended tubes, meaning they project beyond the end of the bore, giving more room for things like a longer conical section. Shot spreaders or diffusion chokes work opposite of normal chokes—they are designed to spread the shot more than a cylinder bore, generating wider patterns for very short range use. A number of recent spreader chokes, such as the Briley "Diffusion" line, actually use rifling in the choke to spin the shot slightly, creating a wider spread.

Oval chokes, which are designed to provide a shot pattern wider than it is tall, are sometimes found on combat shotguns , primarily those of the Vietnam War era. It arguably increased effectiveness in close range engagements against multiple targets. Two major disadvantages plagued the system. One was erratic patterning. The second was that the shot would spread too quickly providing a limited effective zone.

Offset chokes, where the pattern is intentionally slightly off of center, are used to change the point of impact. For instance, an offset choke can be used to make a double barrelled shotgun with poorly aligned barrels hit the same spot with both barrels.

Shotguns generally have longer barrels than modern rifles. Unlike rifles, however, the long shotgun barrel is not for ballistic purposes; shotgun shells use small powder charges in large diameter bores, and this leads to very low muzzle pressures see internal ballistics and very little velocity change with increasing barrel length.

According to Remington, modern powder in a shotgun burns completely in 25 9. Since shotguns are generally used for shooting at small, fast moving targets, it is important to lead the target by firing slightly ahead of the target, so that when the shot reaches the range of the target, the target will have moved into the pattern. On uphill shooting, this means to shoot above the target. Conversely, on downhill shooting, this means to shoot below the target, which is somewhat counterintuitive for many beginning hunters.

Depending on the barrel length, the amount of lead employed will vary for different barrel lengths, and must be learned by experience. Shotguns made for close ranges, where the angular speed of the targets is great such as skeet or upland bird hunting , tend to have shorter barrels, around 24 to 28 inches to millimetres.

The longer barrels have more angular momentum , and will therefore swing more slowly but more steadily. The short, low angular momentum barrels swing faster, but are less steady. These lengths are for pump or semi-auto shotguns; break open guns have shorter overall lengths for the same barrel length, and so will use longer barrels.

Barrels for shotguns have been getting longer as modern steels and production methods make the barrels stronger and lighter; a longer, lighter barrel gives the same inertia for less overall weight. Shotguns for use against larger, slower targets generally have even shorter barrels. For hunting in dense brush, shorter barrel lengths are often preferred when hunting the same types of game.

Shotguns are well suited for the use caliber conversion sleeves , allowing most single- and double-barrel shotguns to fire a wide range of ammunition. The X caliber 12 gauge adapter sleeves also come in. Shotshells are the most commonly used round, filled with lead or lead substitute pellets. Of this general class, the most common subset is birdshot , which uses a large number from dozens to hundreds of small pellets, meant to create a wide "kill spread" to hunt birds in flight.

Shot shells are described by the size and number of the pellets within, and numbered in reverse order the smaller the number, the bigger the pellet size, similar to bore gauge. Size nine 9 shot is the smallest size normally used for hunting and is used on small upland game birds such as dove and quail. Larger sizes are used for hunting larger upland game birds and waterfowl. Buckshot is similar to but larger than birdshot, and was originally designed for hunting larger game, such as deer hence the name.

While the advent of new, more accurate slug technologies is making buckshot less attractive for hunting, it is still the most common choice for police, military, and home defense uses.

Like birdshot, buckshot is described by pellet size, with larger numbers indicating smaller shot. From the smallest to the largest, buckshot sizes are: 4, called "number four" , 1, 0 "one-aught" , 00 " double-aught " , "triple-aught" and "four-aught". New "tactical" buckshot rounds, designed specifically for defensive use, use slightly fewer shot at lower velocity to reduce recoil and increase controllability of the shotgun.

Slug rounds are rounds that fire a single solid slug. They are used for hunting large game, and in certain military and law enforcement applications. Modern slugs are moderately accurate, especially when fired from special rifled slug barrels. They are often used in "shotgun-only" hunting zones near inhabited areas, where rifles are prohibited due to their greater range.

Sabots are a common type of slug round. While some slugs are exactly that—a gauge metal projectile in a cartridge—a sabot is a smaller but more aerodynamic projectile surrounded by a "shoe" of some other material. This "sabot" jacket seals the barrel, increasing pressure and acceleration, while also inducing spin on the projectile in a rifled barrel. Once the projectile clears the barrel, the sabot material falls away, leaving an unmarked, aerodynamic bullet to continue toward the target.

The advantages over a traditional slug are increased shot power, increased bullet velocity due to the lighter-mass bullet, and increased accuracy due to the velocity and the reduction in deformation of the slug itself. Disadvantages versus a traditional slug include lower muzzle momentum due to reduced mass, reduced damage due to smaller bullet diameter, and significantly higher per-unit cost.

The unique properties of the shotgun, such as large case capacity, large bore, and the lack of rifling, has led to the development of a large variety of specialty shells, ranging from novelties to high tech military rounds.

Brenneke and Foster type slugs have the same basic configuration as normal slugs, but have increased accuracy. The hollowed rear of the Foster slug improves accuracy by placing more mass in the front of the projectile, therefore inhibiting the "tumble" that normal slugs may generate.

The Brenneke slug takes this concept a bit further, with the addition of a wad that stays connected to the projectile after discharge, increasing accuracy. Both slugs are commonly found with fins or rib, which are meant to allow the projectile to safely squeeze down during passage through chokes, but they do not increase stability in flight. Flechette rounds contain aerodynamic darts, typically from 8 to 20 in number.

The flechette provide greatly extended range due to their aerodynamic shape, and improved penetration of light armor. American troops during the Vietnam War packed their own flechette shotgun rounds, called beehive rounds , after the similar artillery rounds. However, terminal performance was poor due to the very light weight of the flechettes, and their use was quickly dropped. Grenade rounds use exploding projectiles to increase long range lethality. Flexible baton rounds , commonly called bean bags , fire a fabric bag filled with birdshot or a similar loose, dense substance.

The "punch" effect of the bag is useful for knocking down targets; the rounds are used by police to subdue violent suspects. More than 11 million models have been sold since There are hundreds of variations built on the tried and true action, but the more popular variants include the Express and the Wingmaster.

The Henry Single Shot takes the top spot for single-shot shotguns for sale. It is made with a steel or hardened brass frame and an American walnut stock. It is available in and gauge and bore, with a 26" or 28" barrel. Available in or gauge, the Stoeger Uplander is one of the most popular side-by-sides. It features a checkered walnut stock with recoil pad and 20" barrels with brass bead front sights. The best-selling over-under shotguns include the gauge Browning Citori Crafted with a walnut stock and highly polished blued 28" barrels, it is available in several variants with numerous options.

The price of shotguns for sale varies greatly and depends on the manufacturer, action, features, and other factors. Obscure Evil - Cruel Force - Under The Sign Of The Moon (CD, Album)

Tozshura 0 9 Comments

Travelling through the Muhae Valley, Cruel Moon Archdemon realized that they stumbled into a protective ward and smashed it with a devastating technique. Their group then quickly pressed onward before the fog can regather. Faraway, Cruel Moon Archdemon felt a rupturing sound that pricked every nerve in his body.

Later that day, the Golden Medallion started glowing but Sanggwan Chaek quickly hid it before the others could notice. The demonists caught up to him and wondered if he's alright and Sanggwan Chaek replied that he was feeling tired. Later in the middle of the night, Sanggwan Chaek slipped away while the demonists slept but Cruel Moon Archdemon noticed him. Sanggwan Chaek ran far away but the demonists easily caught up to him, and the Prelate inquired him on the betrayal.

In the ensuing battle, Sanggwan Chaek clashed with the Prelate's bodyguards and managed to kill Myochu. This only enraged Jincheon who pursed and overwhelmed the young man, knocking him unconscious. As the other demonists were looking for Sanggwan Chaek's body, a vine came out of nowhere and sliced one of them to pieces. A fissure opened up between them and the old man fled by riding a piece of rock down into the fissure but not before telling Cruel Moon Archdemon that " soon the three-headed dragon will awake " meaning the three volcanoes will erupt.

However, since the Prelate did not know the meaning of the metaphor, he paid it no mind. When Sanggwan Chaek stabbed the mysterious old man with the Lightning God's Blue Dragon Sword , light shot out from the Golden Castle into the sky causing thunder and lighting to occur which the Prelate glanced at. Travelling farther through the underground passages, his bodyguards defended him from hordes of madmen. She confidently greeted them and clashed with his bodyguards. After killing two, Hong Ye-Mong goaded the Prelate to enter the battle.

The prelate countered her strike but got knocked back due to Hong Ye-Mong's physical strength. As Hong Ye-Mong moved in for another blow, his bodyguards rushed to their prelate's aide. They were repelled once more but this gave Cruel Moon Archdemon enough time to charge up an attack.

In retaliation, Hong Ye-Mong unleashed a special technique. A massive explosion ranged out and when the dust settled, Cruel Moon Archdemon emerged from the rubble with only slight injuries as he was able to block the attack.

This type of cover art can make a big difference when a little-known band releases an album. Captivating or iconic cover art can make a band instantly recognizable, which increases sales, which in turn boosts airplay and subsequently demand for the music.

Mainstream marketing is rarely this attractive, and the wide variety of beautiful CD cover art makes browsing CDs an enjoyable experience that reaches far beyond the music. It must be noted that a collection of this nature is never complete, and the value of art is very personal and subjective. While we may love the familiar cover art of some classic favourites because we love the bands and the music, a critical look at the cover art can often be a disappointment.

For the purposes of this cross-section of remarkable and obscure cd cover art we have chosen to ignore the musical genius of the albums in favor of showcasing brilliant cover art. Rush - Power Windows This strange cover seems to be showing a mirrored world, where we sit and watch a window, surrounded by televisions. What look to be dollish little men have lost their heads, and perhaps some sales opportunities as well.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King The street-art feel of this cover art is both comical and slightly unsettling. This cover art is confusing without being annoying. Someone might pick up this CD just to try to figure out what is going on with the cover.

Daydreamer - Dialogue Bold slpashes of gold and red are used on this cd cover, which features a clever typography image. Haunting eyes peek out from beyond a mass of golden words that serve as hair. Nick Drake - Pink Moon A little bit of everything was thrown into this odd but intriguing cover art. Bright colors and an abstract image are combined to create something visually stunning.

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute This cover art photo is organized confusion that might make would-be listeners curious about the music. Pixies - Doolittle With a name like Pixies, you might expect sweet, innocent looking cover art.

This is not the case. An alien-esque creature would like to be your friend. Would you pass it up? The Roots - Things Fall Apart This album was released with five different covers, each depicting a social disaster. The most striking of the five, seen here, shows African American teenagers being chased down a street in Brooklyn during the Civil Rights era.

Rivermaya - Buhay The art on this cd cover is a bit perplexing. The mostly monochromatic design comes to life with a pop of red and yellow. As the eye is drawn into the picture, the oddities become evident. Story of the Year - Page Avenue The title and art on this cover work beautifully together. To use our president as an example, Gemini's have a "credibility problem," meaning that while they may or may not know they are lying, they also may not be able to speak the truth.

This may be because the truth for a Gemini is mercurial, ever changing, depending upon their mood that day. While they may not be overtly evil, their lack of self-awareness can enable them to do some pretty sketchy shit.

Cancers get obsessive. They have a deep need to love and be nurtured, because they're ruled by the moon, the planet of femininity. When they set their sights on someone, they can't really let go.

So deep is their need to be held, to be loved, to be cradled that with God as their witness they will skin you alive and wear your body to the company Christmas party. Leos would never go out of their way to hurt anyone else directly. They feel they're above it, because they believe they're invariably better than everyone else. But they will certainly go out of their way to make you feel like you are beneath them.

Their criticism comes from a place of trying to be helpful.

under this cruel moon slipping in and out of our consciousness homeless is where the heart is so walk on by and i'll be fine this cardboard cover keeps away the girls of the night i know its late and your thinking im crazy i shared the same dreams as you yesterday you think this is a world away beware of darkness for this could be you someday.

Noticeable flaws on cover will be noted. Any old storm, any old port Life is long, love is short Better get a woman, get a woman if you can If you can't get a woman, get a clean old man. Hardcover , 96 pages. More Details Original Title. Other Editions 1. Friend Reviews. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. Alas ,I realised this all too late and although I have received encouraging feedback I am yet to find the elusive songbook. The expeditions are now, of course, open to both sexes and technology has all but eliminated home made entertainment in our frozen south. There is no doubt that Australians have a unique and identifiable sense of humour.

This sense of humour also infiltrates our bawdry. We have a larrikin spirit that is brash and loud, probably born of a need to cover our inert shyness. We also like to use colourful language, especially colloquial expressions, and this too has left an imprint on our songs. The average bushman of the nineteenth century swore like a trooper, peppered his speech with the most extraordinary expressions but clammed shut, tight as a drum, in the presence of women.

They hardly spoke in front of women let alone swear or sing a bawdy song. In analysing the Australian bawdy repertoire I set out to put the various selections into bit-sized sections — the main reason being to make the collection more approachable and, at the same time, more readable and singable. This also turned out to be a way of controlling the large volume of songs that confronted me.

I trust I have done the songs and tradition a service but please forgive me if some of the categories do not suit your taste. It was a difficult juggling act. One of the problems facing an editor of a book on bawdry is how to acknowledge collected and contributed material. Other material was secretively scribbled down as unidentified singers took the floor.

In such circumstances the idea of a collector interrupting the flow is unimaginable. That said, wherever possible I have tried to identify the source of material, be it from oral collections or print.

Possibly it would have been far better and certainly easier to provide a general list of contributors so no one is blamed for a particular item and the sudden collapse of their maiden aunt. There are also some collected examples where the contributor could not remember some of the lines.

My pinning of tunes on songs has been done to make the collection usable. Wherever possible I have given the most widely distributed melody. In a small handful of cases I have suggested tunes and indicated so. Remember — there is no definitive tune association. The best resource for bawdry is, without a doubt, www. Parody is one of the keys to the bawdry tradition. Nothing is sacred when it comes to using and abusing a known tune for the sake of carrying song verses into popular circulation.

The more common the tune, the more welcome is the coupling. I should imagine some song composers would be shocked to find their precious work being used to describe unbelievable sexual frolics. There is no rhyme or reason to their selection other than the tune came to the mind of the original creator, or creators, and it stuck like glue. Advertising commercials also cop their fair share of parody and several are included in this collection.

There is no age barrier for bawdry and here you will find filthy playground chants side by side with erotic bawdy ballads that have been around for hundreds of years. You will also find that even parodies get parodied. In referring to songs taken from previously published Australian collections, not that there have been many, I have identified the most relevant sources. One has to bear in mind that such works, in most cases, were themselves taken from other print sources.

The important fact here is that these songs have travelled strange paths and there is no one correct version or owner. Whilst I have cited some books as a source I have only done so for reference sake and that particular song could also be included in other books. Wherever possible I have used the most commonly published version.

The challenge of this book was to survey what bawdy songs, recitations and toasts have been and are still circulating in Australia and try and identify those that possibly were created here or were significantly added to or given an Australian perspective. Sometimes such changes are a subtle word here or there and others see the majority of the work changed and localised. There would not have been much value in assembling another anthology of unexplained bawdy classics and re-presenting them in a new package.

I also wanted to provide some evidence to the belief that Australia remains one of the most active societies in keeping this tradition alive. Australians have a well-earned international reputation to uphold! Perhaps not surprisingly, many of the popular bawdy songs are common to the English-speaking world. The majority were created in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries and this had a lot to do with the migration to the cities, changes in working environments, growth of sporting clubs and the general liberalisation of society at large.

I have included two examples in the collection. There is also racist bawdy content in several of the songs and I include them for social and historical importance. It is important we study these songs in perspective and, hopefully, we learn from the past. The survival and circulation of bawdy songs are directly related to the dramatic changes in entertainment patterns: essentially we have moved from entertaining each other to being entertained.

The majority of collecting and compiling of bawdry was done in the later half of the twentieth century reflecting the then relevance of self-entertainment and the awareness of folklore collecting as part of the international urban folk music revival of the s and s.

Informants were, and continue to be, across a wide field of society: ex-servicemen and women, sporting fans, stockbrokers, plumbers, caretakers, bankers, truck drivers, bush poets, my fellow folklore enthusiasts, ratbags and rabblerousers. Although I mention women contributed material to the bawdry collection I cannot say that women in Australia were major carriers of bawdy material.

He was 72 years old. Yet, in a way, this made them representative of the immigrant make-up that, arguably, defines Australian culture. In that sense, The Easybeats embodied Australian music of the time. Whatever their respective birthplaces, the members of The Easybeats came together in Australia and were embraced by Australian fans. However briefly, The Easybeats showed that an Australian act could compete on an international footing as something other than a novelty.

Their elemental fusion of pop smarts and powerful, straight-forward rock music set the pace for the Australian wave of pub rock bands from around to Glenn Frey is drowning his sorrows. He was in a duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle, but they parted ways in the previous year. Frey first met Henley in Henley has been in a band called Shiloh but they broke up earlier in Both Frey and Henley have been approached by country rock singer Linda Ronstadt to join her backing band.

Yet, as they commiserate at the bar, Frey and Henley admit they both want something more. Ah, but what if they join forces? Glenn is the son of Edward Frey and Nellie Frey. Glenn grows up in Royal Oak, Michigan. These lessons continue until he is Glenn switches to guitar in after seeing s British rock stars The Beatles perform in Detroit. Glen Frey attends Dondero High School.

One of his earliest bands is The Subterraneans. Formed in , the other members are all fellow high school students. Lenny Mintz later takes over on drums. Glenn Frey moves on to Oakland Community College. In Glenn Frey forms a band called The Mushrooms.

It is in that Glenn Frey first meets Bob Seger. In the s, Bob Seger becomes a noteworthy rock star, but at this time Seger is just starting his career. It is released by Hideout Records. In Glenn Frey starts a romantic relationship with Joan Sliwin.

She is a member of a Detroit all-girl group called The Mama Cats. The girls change the name of their band to Honey Ltd Alexandra Sliwin has found herself a boyfriend, an aspiring musician named J.

John David Souther born on 2 November Through this connection, Glenn Frey meets J. Glenn returns to Detroit three weeks later — only to pack up his bags and resettle full-time in Los Angeles. Glenn Frey and J. Souther form a duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle. They play country rock and folk music. The duo obtains a recording contract with Amos Records. For a time Glenn Frey and J. Souther share an apartment with another aspiring singer-songwriter, Jackson Browne.

In the s Browne will become part of the West Coast rock community and a star in his own right but, at this point, that is still in the future. Longbranch Pennywhistle disbands in Honey Ltd also disbands in The romantic relationship between Glenn Frey and Joan Sliwin comes to an end in as well.

Souther in March and she wants to quit live performance. Their marriage will end in divorce in Glenn Frey meets Don Henley in Frey considers a solo career but is counselled by David Geffen manager of Crosby, Stills And Nash to form a group instead.

In the meantime, Frey joins the backing group for country rock singer Linda Ronstadt in Don Henley is also part of this backing band. He is the son of C. His ancestry is a mixture of Irish, Scottish and English. Henley is a World War Two veteran who owns an auto parts store. Hughlene Henley is a school teacher. They always had records on in the house…I think my first instrument was a ukulele that they gave me. I used to know how to play that pretty well. At first he plays trombone, but then switches to percussion.

It is the drums that become the instrument with which Henley is most associated. While at high school, Don Henley is asked to join a Dixieland band. This Dixieland band also includes keyboardist Jerry Surratt. Don Henley leaves high school in He and Richard Bowden go on to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The boys are still playing in bands but there are many name changes and personnel shifts. In Don Henley leaves North Texas State University to spend more time with his father who is struggling with heart disease.

At this time, Shiloh comes to the attention of country music singer Kenny Rogers. He is fronting an act called First Edition, but will enjoy greater success later in the s as a solo act. Keyboardist Jerry Surratt dies in a dirt bike accident just before the single is released.

Recordings of the late Jerry Surratt playing keyboards are used on some parts of this disc too. Henley handles lead vocals on all but two tracks; Richard Bowden sings the balance. She was quite impressed with the playing of drummer Don Henley. The next musician recruited for the project is Randy Meisner. His surname is pronounced MIZE-ner. Herman and Emilie Meisner are sharecropping farmers.

They grow beans, alfalfa, corn and sugar beets. Randy is their second child. He has an older sister, Carol who will pass away in His mother, Emilie, sings around the house. Randy takes some lessons and becomes proficient enough to start playing in local bands. Randy heeds this advice. They really inspired me. From to Randy Meisner is bassist and vocalist for a group called The Dynamics. They relocate from Nebraska to California and rename the group The Poor. In May Randy Meisner joins the country rock band Poco.

As a teenager in the s, Ricky Nelson was a pop star and television idol, but the more mature Rick Nelson is now exploring country rock. Meisner leaves before the release of the latter album.

Randy Meisner returns to his native Nebraska in spring He works at a local John Deere tractor dealership. In the evenings, he plays in a band called Gold Rush. Meisner returns to Los Angeles later in His new colleagues Glenn Frey and Don Henley persuade Randy Meisner to become part of the new group they are putting together.

His surname is pronounced Led-un, not Leed-in. Bernie is the son of Dr Bernard Leadon, Jr. Dr Leadon is an aerospace engineer and nuclear physicist. His career path keeps his family moving around the U. The Leadons are Roman Catholics and Bernie is just one of their ten children. This invitation follows an encounter with two musicians from that group, Ed Douglas and Larry Murray. Among the members of The Scottsville Squirrel Barkers is mandolin player Chris Hillman who goes on to greater fame as bassist for folk rock band The Byrds.

Bernie Leadon is brought into the act to replace banjo player Kenny Wertz who left to join the air force in Wertz will later be part of the line-up of country rock band The Flying Burrito Brothers. Late in Bernie Leadon — along with his parents and siblings — relocates to Gainesville, Florida.

Bernie Leadon attends Gainesville High School. While there, Bernie makes friends with a fellow student, Don Felder who will become a future member of The Eagles.

In , the now 20 year old Bernie Leadon returns to California. However, Rick Cunha has now left the group and Bernie Leadon is brought in as his replacement.

Both Hillman and Clarke are former members of The Byrds. He was helping Don and Glenn. It is proposed that the band that will become The Eagles should have a fifth member, J. It may be recalled that Souther was the other half of the duo Longbranch Pennywhistle with Glenn Frey. However, bassist Randy Meisner objects to the idea of Souther joining the new group so the idea is abandoned and a four piece line-up is decided upon: Glenn Frey vocals, guitar, occasional piano , Don Henley vocals, drums , Randy Meisner bass, vocals and Bernie Leadon guitar, vocals.

In fact, there is only one show where all four of the future Eagles appear together backing Ronstadt and that is at Disneyland in July The future Eagles sign a recording contract with Asylum Records in September Asylum is a fledgling label created by David Geffen, the same individual who urged Glenn Frey to form a group rather than attempt a solo career.

David Geffen sends Glenn Frey and company to Aspen, Colorado, to rehearse and get their sound together as a band. There are a few different versions of how the group comes to be called The Eagles. Don Felder, a later member of The Eagles, claims that guitarist Bernie Leadon came up with the name during a group excursion to the desert, when the boys are fuelled by peyote a psychedelic drug and tequila.

Comedian Steve Martin, a long-time associate of the band, contends that he suggested the name of The Eagles and Glenn Frey excised the definite article leaving Eagles. It is true that on all their album sleeves, the group is credited as Eagles rather than The Eagles. Without any disrespect to Glenn Frey, it becomes so common for fans and critics alike to call the group The Eagles that it feels more like their natural name and so they are referred to here as The Eagles.

It also appears likely that one of the reasons why the group chooses the name of The Eagles is to indicate they are continuing the country rock tradition established by acts like The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. The music played by The Eagles is usually classed as country rock.

As the name implies, country rock is a mixture of country music and rock music. The Eagles do not invent country rock. Gram Parson is perhaps the most influential figure in the development of the country rock genre. Important though all these artists and albums may be, it is The Eagles who really publicise and epitomise country rock.

They embody the dusty sentimentality of country and the driving beat of rock. Over the course of the s, The Eagles will change from a mainly country band to a mainly rock band. Unless otherwise indicated, all Eagles songs mentioned here are co-written by Frey and Henley. All the great bands in history had one or two people at the helm.

This means a careful, well-rehearsed use of layered voices. The gruff Don Henley is at the lower end, while the angelic Randy Meisner occupies the higher register. Glenn Frey is flexible enough to fill the space in between as individual songs require, with Bernie Leadon lending minimal support. The lead vocal is usually by either Henley or Frey. The balance between the two is roughly equal. In the earlier days, Frey is probably dominant but, by the late s, the reverse is true, with Henley receiving slightly more lead vocals.

Frey is lead vocalist on the song. The handsome Browne recalls a girl in a Toyota pick-up checking him out. Frey, who had been regaled with this tale earlier, weaves this into the narrative. In a commemorative statue of Glenn Frey will be erected on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.

It takes two weeks to record in February and costs one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars. Guitarist Glenn Frey and drummer Don Henley want the album to rock while guitarist Bernie Leadon favours a stronger country flavour.

Leadon has an important ally: producer Glyn Johns. The photo on the cover of the album is a shot of the sky above trees in Joshua Tree National Park in south-eastern California. The photo is taken by Henry Diltz and the art director for the album is Gary Burden. His hoarse voice spins a tale of a supernatural sweetie. The biting guitars approximate an Apache tribal dance.

Scott Fitzgerald. The Eagles support the release of their first album by going on tour around the U. In mid Asylum merges with Elektra and both labels are distributed by Warner Bros. Once again, Gary Burden is the art director and Henry Diltz is the photographer. Jackson showed the book to [Eagles associate] J. While working on their third album, The Eagles decide to expand to a five-piece line-up. Don Felder is raised in a Southern Baptist family.

His early life is difficult because the family struggles financially. Don gets his first guitar when he is 10 years old.

As the years pass, Don works part-time in a music shop to obtain better equipment. As a teenager, he gives guitar lessons to future rock star Tom Petty. When he is 15 Don Felder forms his first group, The Continentals. Don Felder moves to New York and joins Flow, an improvisational rock and jazz fusion band.

In Don Felder marries Susan Pickersgill. Don and Susan go on to have four children: a son named Jesse born on 6 April , Rebecca born on 31 December , Cody born on 10 October and Leah born on 24 November Don Felder moves to Boston, Massachusetts, and gets a job in a recording studio.

Through his old friend Bernie Leadon, Felder meets The Eagles in while they are on their first tour. Felder moves to Los Angeles and finds work there as a session musician and as a guitarist in the back-up groups for various performers. Guitarist Bernie Leadon suggests his former bandmate Don Felder. Glenn Frey provides the lead vocal. Azoff worked for Geffen and Elliot Roberts so his new role is a case of promotion from within the same organisation.

Guitarist Don Felder is absent from the gig because his first child, his son Jesse, is born on the same day. From to Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon is in a romantic relationship with Patti Davis, the daughter of future U.

President Ronald Reagan. In Eagles vocalist and drummer Don Henley is romantically linked to U. In Don Henley becomes a father for the first time when his daughter Brittany is born. The cover of the album is the image of a painted cow skull. The paintbrush was applied to the skeletal remains by Boyd Elder a. With [guitarist] Don Felder in the band now, we can really rock!

The Eagles have not entirely discarded country music. Fittingly, it is one of their more successful songs on the country music chart. The clientele included many beautiful women. It is the only track on this album to feature Frey as lead vocalist. Henley and Frey] would fill in the blanks. Jim Ed Norman plays piano and conducts the string arrangement on this waltz-timed piece.

Guest musician David Bromberg plays the fiddle on this tune. This includes a gig at Wembley Stadium in London on 21 June as a support act for flamboyant pop singer Elton John.

He is sitting with Glenn Frey in the bar of a hotel where the band is staying. Frey, in his customary animated fashion, is holding forth on what he sees for the future of The Eagles. That is, Robert Fidler dies in a plane crash. When Joe is 5 years old, his mother remarries. His other coping mechanism is music. Joe also shows some musical ability. While at high school, he starts playing trombone before switching to oboe.

However, Joe Walsh soon finds his way to the instrument with which he will become identified: the guitar. Joe plays in a high school band called The G-Clefts.

Joe Walsh replaces Bruce Hoffman in a local band called The Nomads, even though it necessitates a switch from guitar to bass for Walsh. Walsh plays in various Cleveland, Ohio, bands. In he fronts a band called The Measles Walsh is, of course, back to playing guitar as well. A variety of local bands go into the recording studio and when their work is released it is credited to The Ohio Express. Joe Walsh drops out of university to pursue a career in music.

Another Ohio band in this era is The James Gang. This musical trio is named after a pack of Wild West outlaws. The James Gang continues for some years with other members. Joe Walsh toys with forming a new group, Barnstorm In Joe Walsh marries his second wife, Stefany Rhodes.

Joe and Stefany have a daughter, Emma Kristen The little girl dies in at the age of 3 as a result of injuries she sustains in a car smash on the way to nursery school. It will be decades before this situation changes. Walsh is a colourful character and a well-respected hard rock guitarist while The Eagles are country rock perfectionists.

It helps that the two acts share a producer Bill Szymczyk and a manager Irving Azoff. I joined their band. The addition of Joe Walsh in December creates, arguably, the definitive Eagles line-up: Glenn Frey vocals, guitar, occasional piano , Don Henley vocals, drums , Joe Walsh guitar, vocals, occasional keyboards , Don Felder guitar, vocals and Randy Meisner bass, vocals. Allegedly, during this time Nicks has an abortion after falling pregnant to Henley. John Kosh is responsible for the album design as well as the neon logo of the album title.

The song has a sweet, country lilt. New Eagle Joe Walsh plays keyboards rather than guitar on this song. It also achieves the highest chart position in the U. The lead vocal is by Henley. So, on one level, this is a depiction of California as a soulless shell with corruption rotting away just below the surface. The trap of life in some idealised version of California is the same, but the trappings here are aggressively modern rather than gothic.

For some time, The Eagles have been straining to be seen as a rock band rather than a country band and, with this song, that goal is fully realised. Meisner is also the author of the song. By June bassist Randy Meisner has a stomach ulcer.

The Eagles are closely identified with California, but of the seven official members of the band over the years, Timothy B. Schmit is the only one born in California; all the others are born elsewhere in the U. Timothy is the son of Danny Schmit and Janey Schmit. His father, Danny Schmit, is part Chilean and part Mexican. Schmit is the surname of the couple who adopted Danny. Because Danny Schmit is a touring musician, he is often away from home.

Although this gypsy lifestyle may be romantic, the Schmit family settles in Sacramento, California, after two years. As a child, Timothy B Schmit takes tap dance lessons. He is also athletic enough to be a gymnast. Since his father, Danny Schmit, is a musician, Timothy B. Schmit grows up in a musical environment. His first instruments are violin, trombone, ukulele and banjo. His companions in this endeavour are: Tom Phillips guitar and Ron Floegel ukulele.

In this act evolves into a surf music group called The Contenders. Timothy B. Schmit switches to bass, Ron Floegel switches to rhythm guitar and a fourth member, drummer George Hullin, joins to complete The Contenders line-up. Schmit studies psychology. Meantime, The New Breed keeps plugging away. Schmit tries to make ends meet by selling vacuum cleaners in the day time. In Timothy B.

Schmit auditions for country rock band Poco, but they turn him down in favour of future Eagle Randy Meisner. Schmit is invited to replace him.

Schmit quits Glad — and his psychology studies — and joins Poco in From to Timothy B. Schmit is a member of Poco. The members of Poco in this era are: Richie Furay vocals, guitar — , Paul Cotton vocals, guitar — , Rusty Young pedal steel guitar — , Timothy B. Schmit bass, vocals — and George Grantham drums — While with Poco, Timothy B.

Schmit also makes guest appearances on the following albums by U. Shortly after joining Poco, Timothy B. Schmit marries a woman named Noreen.
