Though it did never contain any chart-topping singles, The Man Who Sold The World, released in , did serve as the beginning of his classic period where he started working with fellow session guitarist Mark Ronson and producer Tony Visconti, as he developed a tightly twisted heavy form of guitar rock done to a radical tone that gnarled upon each listen.
Oh yes, Virgin Records may want to check on the unreleased track Lightning Frightening that first appeared on a CD re-issue, which gave it the finishing touch the first time around.
One person found this helpful. This is David Bowie giving himself a less synthy and more guitar oriented sound. And who better to do that for him than the legendary Mick Ronson? The title track was famously covered by Nirvana but the first four tracks are the best. There are a few songs on here that that are only good, but they can't spoil the stellar first four tracks, nor the second to last, "The Man Who Sold the World.
Underplayed Bowie goodness will be refreshing from some of his more famous songs that you have heard your whole life. This ranks in my top 5 favorite Bowie albums. For me, it goes like this: 1. Ziggy Stardust 2. Hunky Dory 3. Low 4. Station to Station 5. The Man who Sold the World. No more "Laughing Gnomes" on this LP; "Running Gun Blues" and the Title song are interlaced with a futuristic post-apocalyptic world where Bowie's vocals blend and blur with the lyrics very well.
Many people may be solely aware of the album's title track thanks to deceased rocker Kurt Cobain and his performing it on Nirvana unplugged. Archived from the original on 16 February CD EP liner notes.

It matched or came out of the performances which were always sweeping, grand. Even the visceral base sexual desire in Ziggy is epic. The raging erection of all time.
This album was two albums prior to Ziggy and while it displays some of that raw swaying sex, an equal number of the songs are lengthy contemplative works. When Epic Bowie meets Epic subject matter, we are in the stratosphere. Width of a Circle and the title track cannot have ever sounded this good, which brings us to manufacture. Rhino, per usual, does a stellar job recreating the album art and putting it on audiophile vinyl.View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the Vinyl release of The Man Who Sold The World on Discogs.
